Essential Oil Spotlight: Clementine Petitgrain

23rd Apr 2015

Clementine PetitgrainDid you know that the Bitter Orange tree provides us with 3 different types of essential oils?

Orange essential oil is extracted from the vibrant orange rind - with its fruity, slightly bitter citrus scent.

Neroli essential oil is extracted from the fragrant blossoms - with its vividly floral, citrusy, sweet and exotic scent.

Petitgrain essential oil is extracted from the leaves and branches - with its fresh, woody, and slightly floral scent.

COMMON USES FOR PETITGRAIN

Petitgrain is derived from the French meaning of small seeds. Petitgrain’s relaxing qualities are advantageous in stress-related conditions. Nervous exhaustion, insomnia and depression all benefit from the use of Petitgrain. It helps to calm and sooth when one is feeling anger, anxiety or panic and helps to uplift and give assurance when one is feeling down.

Furthermore, it soothes aches and pains as it has a sedative effect on the nervous system. By slowing down the body it helps one to relax, slowing down breathing and relaxing muscles.

Having deodorizing properties, it helps to refresh and vitalize the mind and body too!

Petitgrain is also effective in clearing and toning the skin. Try adding to your toner to aid acne prone skin.

Clementine Petitgrain comes from - you guessed it - the Clementine tree! Clementine’s are a cross between a Chinese mandarin and a sweet orange. It has a softer, sweeter, noticeably more citrus-like aroma than Petitgrain from bitter orange. Often it is described as more floral despite the fact that it does not come from the flowers of the plant. Clementine Petitgrain has a wonderful uplifting effect like many citrus oils without being overly energizing.

RDA’s  Clementine Petitgrain is organic, steam distilled from France and our regular Petitgrain is Eco-Trade, steam distilled from Paraguay.

RDA'S CLEMENTINE PETITGRAIN BLEND

Blending is all about balancing notes – much like balancing flavours when cooking! Having oils in a blend that marry all the different notes will give you a rich and complex aroma.

We love diffusing a blend of:

Clementine Petitgrain - Middle to top note

Rosewood- Middle to top note that is slightly heavier than Clementine Petitgrain

Sandalwood - Base note

Neroli– Middle to base note that rounds out the blend, giving it depth and dimension with its sweet, spicy and woody aroma
