DIY: Calendula Healing Ointment

4th Nov 2015

This easy healing ointment requires only 3 ingredients  and you can customize the essential oils to suit your needs. Calendula Infused Oil makes an excellent healing base for your preparation. It is an infused or macerated herbal oil that is widely known for its healing properties for slow healing wounds, bed sores, cuts and burns. It is astringent and has a tightening effect on the skin. It can be used on broken capillaries, varicose veins, bruises, and eczema. It has traditional uses for healing babies’ bottoms. Use as a compress for chapped and dry skin. For bruising and contusions, mix 50/50 with St. John’s Wort Oil.

INGREDIENTS

250 ml Calendula Infused Oil

2 Tbsp (30 g) Beeswax Pellets

80-120 drops essential oil blend of choice

Your choice of essential oils will depend upon the desired end use of your ointment.

DIRECTIONS

1. Gently warm the oil in a non reactive container over low heat.

2. Add the beeswax and heat until the wax is melted.

3. When the wax has melted, dip a metal spoon into the mixture and place in the freezer.

4. When cool, you can test the consistency of your mixture. If you need it softer, add a little more Calendula Oil. If you want it a bit harder, add more beeswax.

5. When you are happy with your ointment consistency, add the essentials at the very end. Pour into dark glass jars and let harden.
